Successful college acceptance takes some time. As a
first or second semester Junior, you’re in the perfect
position to excel at college applications from start to
finish. Although 16 months seems like a long time, it
flies by with activities, classes, and friends. Budgeting
in the time now to prepare for application crunch in
senior year will help you reach your goals.
Some of the main topics and services I provide for
Juniors:
- Assistance registering for SAT/ACT test dates
- SAT/ACT tutoring, including subject tests
- Brainstorming potential colleges and interests
- Creating achievable and reasonable goals from
brainstorming
- Providing tricks and tips for staying on schedule
during applications
- Identifying viable scholarships and grants based on
students interests and background
- Timeline mapping of college application and
scholarship deadlines
- Interview practice (phone, Skype and in person) for
admissions and scholarships
Depending on your goals or interests, I structure a
multi-week program with the goal of intelligently and
efficiently preparing for college applications.
For ACT/SAT tutoring, we dive right in the first
session. For college admissions assistance, I offer a
30-minute free first meeting, where I work with both
you and your parents to outline goals or limitations
(Ex: you need 75% in-state financial aid, or a 2200
SAT score). In most cases, I work with students for
one hour, once a week, for as many weeks as needed.
I contact parents by phone or email during the week
to keep them updated. However, this is flexible
depending on your needs.
While we follow a program to complete all tasks, I’m
also available for simply asking questions, and helping
you contact resources for information. In college, I
learned that part of using your time effectively is
walking in armed with as much information as
possible. Many times, there are vast resources
available to help you sort out what you want or
achieve what you need, but if you don’t know where
to look, they can be quite elusive. As a recent
graduate, I’m familiar with hunting up the hidden
resources, from student groups to alumni to university
staff.
If you are curious about how I can help you, or
interested in scheduling an meeting, please give me a
call or send me an email (jcg1563@gmail.com)! I
look forward to hearing from you!
